Comment: Fluency is critical for students to become successful in school. If students do not become fluent in their reading and writing they will not develop that passion for reading that I think is so critical to try and foster while the children are in elementary school. The sooner that reading can become more natural and enjoyable. We cannot just assume students will never become good readers. Instead we need to help each individual student learn different techniques to increase their fluency so that they can feel comfortable and confident as they continue to read through out school.
Question: What are some ways that you think you will help increase reading and writing fluency in your future classes?
I think allowing students time to read what they want to read. This is huge because part of what made me not like reading is I was forced to read certain books. The teachers gave us some time to read what we wanted but not enough. Also, the teacher should read aloud to his/her students a lot.
