Comment: This seems like a really effective way to assess students word identification and reading fluency, but it also seems like it would take a lot of time to have to do this for every student. I also liked the modified procedure of running records where you just have the student read aloud for 1 minute while the teacher marks a copy of the text as the student reads. This procedure might not be as accurate, but it is more time efficient.
Question: How often do you use a running record on students? Like every quarter to see how they are improving or what? Which procedure do you like better?
Kris, I also think that the running record is a really neat tool to help teachers see where their students are. Maybe if they did one read aloud to the teacher a week, the teacher could get a better view of how students are doing which still takes less time than the full running record. The running record is probably done every few months I would think. Or 2-3 times a year.
