Comment: I think it is such a valuable resource to have students from different cultures. They can serve as guest speakers within your own classroom! When studying a specific culture or unit that introduces other cultures, it would be so interesting and beneficial to have students from that culture tell about customs from that culture. The students will learn about the culture as well as about each other. I think a shared space between teacher and student is a great way to learn from each other. The teacher can introduce a culture and the students can fill in the details with their own personal experiences. It would also be neat to show like how different cultures celebrate different holidays and create a display board for it. There are so many benefits to have students with cultural experiences to share!
Question: How can you as a teacher unite all the diversity of culture in your students in your classroom?
There are several ways to unite the diversity in your classroom. One way is to create a community of respect and love. Teach the students to appreciate difference and explain that everyone's differences are needed in the classroom. Assign students different roles and explain how each role is important to keep the classroom running just as each individual is needed with their own differences. Also have the students work in groups and learn how to learn from each other. They will see how everyone thinks differently and that we can always learn more from them. You can also use LITERACY! Read books that teach the importance of diversity and just as you said before have students share their cultures and even write about it to others.
