Comment: I think this statement is of great importance to us as teachers because we need to know our students and know their personal reading levels. If we give students books to read that are below their reading level, they will be bored and have a negative view of reading. On the other hand, if students are trying to read books that are beyond their ability to read, they will also have a negative view of reading because they will be frustrated and annoyed. People have to feel a certain amount of success in order to continue doing something and enjoy it, so we need to make sure our students are feeling successful while they read.
