Quote: "As a culminating assessment task, ask students to divide their portfolio into sections as a collection of assignments. For example, students can provide an assignment or artefact that exhibits proficiency in speaking, listening, writing, reading and visual communication."
Comment:I really love the idea of using portfolios as a way of informal assessment. I think it is a great way for students to look over all they've accomplished through the year and see how far they've come. This is really a student centered assessment. They get to decorate, organize, and create their portfolio in the way that they choose.
Question: How would you grade or determine student's abilities and growth using this type of assessment? How could use ensure fairness when determining grades between all different levels of students?
I think that you could definitely use a rubric for this assignment. You can assess the organization, how many things they included, etc. You can also include a self-evaluation that is part of their grade.
ReplyDeleteI think a clear rubric would provide for a fair grade. This rubric could include a section on creativity or thoughtfulness to provide fairness to those students who may be lacking more in the academics of the project.
