Qoute: "Students who are engaged are intrinsically motivated, do more reading and writing, and have higher achievement. They have higher aspirations and are more likely to be successful (Tompkins pg. 8)."
Comment: I never thought that being engaged in work would lead to becoming more motivated and achieving more. It is the teachers that helps students become motivated, they create the feeling in the classroom.
Question: How are we, as teachers, supposed to create the environment that makes the students motivated and wanting to learn?
As teachers, we too must possess the love for learning. We should not only teach our students to love learning but we should also show them. Tell your students what your favorite book was in elementary school. Tell then who your favorite teacher was and why. Let them know that you enjoyed school at their age as well. It is also important to have resources that foster a learning environment. Have a collection of books of every subject, use exciting colors in your lessons, use movie clips, songs, etc., that make children excited to learn.
