"They found that parents who supported their children's reading at home did better at school. This study led to many developments in schools, including the use of book bags, and links between home and school being strengthened," (Pahl, 55).

It seems to me that as the students make their studies a part of their home life, they are making them a bigger part of their life in general and they allow for more exposure to reading which in turn yields greater proficiency faster. This also shows how much of a difference it makes if the parents are involved and supportive of the students learning, rather than just apathetic. Finally, as I read Fatih's story, it seems like when students can make the connection between home and school, they will be more inspired to write and create because they know they can talk about the things they love, and it becomes a fun thing rather than a chore.

Is it hard to keep kids on the same level if you have a variety of supportive and less-supportive parents, or is the difference not that great?
