Comment: We have to understand that children do not come with previous knowledge on how to write down their ideas. Some children are more talented at being able to take information stored and organize it such as they convey the message they desire to, but for the most part we should assist the children to be more efficient at this.
Question: How would you help the children to choose a topic for their paper?
I loved this quote in the book because it helped me to realize how truly important pre-writing is. When writing is something new for our students, they will be mostly unfamiliar with aspects of good writing, so we need to help them develop these skills. One way we could help them choose a topic is to ask them what they are interested in. In order for writing to be exciting, it is important that we write about things we care about. If our students can think of something they like, they can choose a topic that relates to that interest.
