Quote: "When researchers considered how parents could support their children at home, the reading of books became the center of the strategies parents could be given to support their childrens literacy."
Comment: I believe parents have an integral part in their child's success when it comes to literacy. Not only do teachers need to be a good motivation but parents need to motivate their child to as well. There are so many distractions that pull children away from reading when they are at home. Such as television, video games, and after school activities. Trying to incorporate reading and writing activities into a child's daily routine is extremely important and can be done.
Question: How can parents and teachers work together to make reading and writing a priority in their child's life with all the other distractions around? The hard part is making it a priority but also striving to make it enjoyable for the child.
I also believe that the responsibility lies with the parents in introducing reading to their children. One way that my parents helped me to love reading was to read stories out loud to us at night. This showed me that reading is fun for adults and children alike. Another way that my dad helped me was having me read to him and practice my reading skills. I think that teachers can ask parents to replace some of their television time with reading time and let the children choose the books so that they read things that are interesting to them. These are a couple ways that parents and teachers can work together in promoting literacy development.
