Children have the biggest imaginations. Most of what they know about the world is from the enviornment that they grew up in. They are able to draw conclusions about the world and make sense of things through their experiences. As educators it is our job to embrace and understand where our students are coming from, so that we can better help them. However it is also our job to help them grow. We must show them all that the world has to offer. We must be a window to a world that they would otherwise not be able to see. We must also allow our students a chance to express themselves in a variety of ways. Not all people are writers, or drawers. Everyone has unique gifts and all must be embraced.
As an educator how do you plan to embrace your students unique circumstances? How do you plan on being their window into different worlds? In what ways can you incorporate a variety of activities so all can thrive?
I agree with you that it is so important to understand where our students come from, including their background, home life, culture, and family. If we know each student on a deeper level, we will better be able to cater to our students needs and provide opportunities to help them succeed. We need to help each child reach their potential. Each student has different needs and abilities and we have to be aware of that so we can teach each child in a way that works for them.In order for all to thrive, I think it is a good idea to have a lot of options for certain assignments or activities so students can pick what they are best at.
