Comment: It is important to understand that the child understanding depends largely on their prior knowledge and in targeting the big ideas. By encouraging the children to make prediction we can see the level that they are and get a glimpse of their perspective. Then as a teacher we can teach them how to predict or how to use prior knowledge to build more knowledge on top of it.
Question: how would you activate prior knowledge?
A good way to activate prior knowledge is to have the students brainstorm as a class and think of ideas they have come across in stories they have read. When an event is happening in a story, the class can make a list of all the possible scenarios and what they think will happen based on the texts they have been exposed to.
