Comment: At the beginning of the Gambrell article, it talked about the specific roles teachers should have in the classroom when teaching their students to read. I loved reading the different comments that children said regarding what teachers could do to make reading more exciting for them. Their answers were so sweet and honest and their comments show how much love they have for reading. Motivation plays an important role in the classroom. When students are motivated to read they will look at reading as something enjoyable. Teachers need to be aware of the impact they have on their students motivation level.
Question: How do you motivate your students by holding high but realistic expectations when it comes to reading? The students may be on many different reading levels... how do you help them individually without making them feel like they are under advanced or over advanced?
I also agree that motivation is key to helping students learn to love reading. My mother-in-law told me that she tells her fourth grade class how much she loves to read, and how she can't sleep without having read for fun that day. I think that helping students to see how much we as teachers love to read will really help them to feel that they can love reading too. It is also important that students are given the opportunity to read at their own reading level. During silent reading time and at home, they should be allowed to select books that will interest them and will be within their ability range to read.
